Your cuttings have formed their first full leaves – congratulations, the next step is now due: repotting in the smartTRAY. Now it’s time to give the little plants more space for their roots and place them in the prepared smartSOIL . Sounds complicated, but it’s easy if you do it step by step.
🏗️ Prepare holes
Before the cuttings go into the tray, you need suitable planting holes:
- Press holes into the smartSOIL – as big as the seed pots.
- Make sure there is an even distance between the plants and to the edges of the tray.
- This ensures that each plant has enough space for roots, light and air.
🌱Remove the cuttings from the seed pots
Now it’s getting exciting: carefully take the cuttings out of their cups or pots.
- Plastic cup method: Press lightly against the sides until the substrate loosens. Then lift out the plant with the entire root ball.
- Important: Don’t be alarmed if you see lots of little white hairs on the roots. This is not mold, but the so-called root hairs – and these are absolutely vital for the absorption of water and nutrients.

🪴 Planting in the tray
- Carefully place the cuttings in the prepared holes.
- Gently press the plants down until they are level with the smartSOIL.
- Be careful not to crush the roots – it’s about secure support, not concrete foundations.
🌿 Good to know: Mulch & helper plants
You can also upgrade your smartSOIL :
- Mulch layer: Protects soil moisture, regulates temperature and reduces evaporation. Hemp mulch is extremely suitable.
- Companion plants (cover crops):
- Examples: Marigolds, various types of clover.
- Fix nitrogen from the air in the soil.
- Regulate humidity, temperature and water balance.
- Serve as a natural pest prevention.
- Their growth shows how active your soil life is.
👉 Don’t worry: cannabis is highly competitive. Your main plants will prevail in the late vegetation phase at the latest.
đź’§ Watering correctly
After planting, only water around the edge of the tray .
This “forces” the roots to look for water. Result: A strong, widely branched root system – the basis for healthy plants and thick flowers.
🧾 Brief summary
Prepare even planting holes, carefully insert cuttings together with the root ball, press them down gently, add mulch or companion plants – and water around the edges so that your plants develop a strong root system.
