You’ve trimmed your buds neatly and stored them safely in jars – but before you can enjoy them, there’s one last, crucial step left: curing. This process gives your flowers flavor, mildness and shelf life. In other words: this is where good weed becomes really good weed.
🎯 Why curing is so important
- Degradation of chlorophyll: This leafy green makes for a scratchy, unpleasant smoking experience.
- Maturation of aromas: Terpenes develop fully when the flowers are allowed to cure slowly.
- Better shelf life: Properly cured buds stay fresh and aromatic for months.
🏺 How to start the curing process
- Fill jars
– Use sealable glass jars, fill them about 2/3 full with buds (air cushion important!). - 62 % Boveda packs & hygrometer
– Pack a Boveda pack and a small hygrometer in each jar.
– Aim for a constant 60 % humidity. - Placement
– Place the jars in a dark, cool place (no direct sunlight!).
🔄 “Burping” – controlled ventilation
In the first few weeks, the motto is: open the lid – fresh air in.
- Week 1:
– Ventilate 4-5 times a day for approx. 5 minutes.
– Remove the Boveda packs during this time. - Week 2:
– Reduce to 1-2 times a day. - From week 3:
– once a day is enough.
This ensures that excess moisture escapes and the buds mature evenly.
🎨 Your personal touch
Every grower swears by slightly different times. Some love the buds after 2 weeks, others let them cure for 8 weeks or longer.

🧾 Brief summary
Curing means: put the buds in a jar, stabilize with a 62 % pack, “burp” daily and allow to mature slowly – this will make your weed smooth, aromatic and long-lasting.
